So you wanna install Windows? If so you’re on the right track. You may have already searched for hours on getting Windows or even on how to install it. You might have even found out that some of them are scans. We’ll be showing you how to get Windows, be it Genuine or Non-Genuine, we promise you we won’t scam you or anything! So you can trust us. 🙂

Now read the rest of it. (Reading this won’t get Windows installed all by itself!)

Installing Windows is no easy feat. And if you do it wrong, it could jeopardize your entire PC. And a lesson to be learned is; to read it all before doing it (read it twice if you’re a novice). So read the entire article, word to word, twice before trying it out.

I’ll get straight down to business:

Getting Started

You will first need to establish a few things.

Hardware Specifications

  • Newer versions (7 and Up), have been provided with an upgrade advisor program to tell you everything you need to know. Plus, if you want genuine Windows, run the upgrade tester and follow the instructions to install Windows.

  • If you can’t run the upgrade tester (as it is only for Windows!) or some other reasons, manually check your specs. [Windows 8^: a processor with NX, 2GB RAM, 40GB+ storage space, internet access, 1.5GHz^ processor| Windows Vista^: 1.5GHz^ processor, no UEFI, 1GB RAM, 20GB+ storage space| Windows XP and below: 512MB-2GB RAM, no UEFI, IDE storage controller, 700MHz^ processor, 10GB+ storage space] you can check most of the processor-related specs at the Intel ARK.

  • You’ll also need a bit of knowledge about your PC an it’s parts.

BIOS/UEFI Establishment

Next you’ll need to establish what boot system your PC uses. Read this to find out if you’ll need UEFI or BIOS versions of Windows. Vista and below will not work with UEFI.

X86/x86_64 Establishment

You’ll then need to know if your processor is 32-bit or 64-bit. To do so, either check the Intel ARK for your processor or use this Windows-Only application. |CPU-Z| [Get CPU-Z, and check the “Instruction Set” for “EM64T”. if you can see it, your CPU is 64-bit.

Once you know what processor type you have, get the relevant version of Windows. Note: you can install a 32-bit OS on a 64-bit CPU.

Which Edition of Windows

This is completely up to you. But the prices will go higher as the edition climbs. If you’re planning to use non-Genuine Windows, go for the best edition. The most common editions, ascending: Starter, Home Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium, Student, Professional/Pro, Ultimate, Enterprise.

Get the help of Google to decide.

Going Genuine

To go genuine, you must purchase a license key, which can be gotten through the Microsoft Website. OR after installing Windows, search for “Genuine Windows” in either their website or on your help applet. OR you can search Google for “activation key Microsoft Windows (Version) buy” and go through the MS website.

Non Genuine

If you don’t wanna buy Windows, check out this page to get your Windows copy activated without having to pay a dime!

Get Windows

Once you’ve checked all that, get the appropriate material from the below list.

Each will be larger than 1GB. We recommend you follow the steps to burn the image directly to a USB larger than 8GB (For UEFI users, this is compulsory). You will only need the Upgrade Advisor to Get Genuine Windows directly. You may also choose to get Windows as a burnable ISO file which can be reused (e.g. for a VM, for future use etc.)

  • The choice of 32/64-bit, Windows edition and all that can be found in the appropriate Get Windows applet or the Upgrade Advisor applet.
  • For any version marked with (*), we will only be giving the best edition ISO file, furthermore there will be no advisors or Get Windows applet.
  • Windows 2003 and below will only recognize IDE storage controllers.

Get a Backup

If things get picky in the middle, stick the poker in the pickle!

Have a system image ready in case you end up with a bricked computer. To learn how to get a system image, read this PDF |System Image|. Read all about system images in the article.

Backup all your important files.

As a system image will restore everything, including the current OS, it’s not a very bright idea to have that as a backup solution. So manually backup any important files to an external hard disk or cloud medium before installing a new version of Windows.

Burn the Disk

Don’t literally burn your hard disk!

You will have either an ISO file at your disposal or you might have chosen to directly burn it to a USB device. If you go a lone ISO file (and the Get Windows applet didn’t prompt you to burn it, read this on how to burn an ISO file; you’ll need a USB or DVD/CD for this step, + Plus you’ll need a Disk Writer to burn the DVD/CD (Your DVD drive will have a “Writable” label on it).

Installing Windows

The crucial step of installation is given in a step by step guide taking Windows 7 as an example. As it is too long, it is given as a separate PDF |Here|. Read it thoroughly and twice before doing whatever it says.

UEFI users, read this and this for installing Windows UEFI.

if you want a specific tut, read this on installing Windows 10
